Alvin David Hooper - Obituary

Alvin David Hooper, 86, of Springdale, Arkansas was born on May 7, 1928 in Witter, Arkansas to George Washington Russell Hooper and Daisy Angeline Bolinger Hooper and departed this life on March 31, 2015 to join his Lord and the loved ones who preceded him in death.

Alvin was a Navy veteran of World War Two who served aboard the USS Kermit Roosevelt and was honorably discharged in 1947. In his early years, he worked as an electrician, farmer and carpenter; and he retired from Tyson Foods after many years of devoted work. Alvin enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He spent a lot of his retirement years on his favorite hobby, genealogy. He was a member and volunteer of the Madison County Genealogical and Historical Society. He was a loving Dad, Pops, Papa and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters, one brother and one son, Charles Alvin Hooper.

He is survived by four children: Donna Phillips and husband Sherman of Springdale, Arkansas; David Hooper of Huntsville, Arkansas; Chris Hooper and wife Julie of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Lynn Gibson and husband James of Fayetteville, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren, Jody Phillips and wife Kristen, Mike Phillips, Jeremy Phillips, James David Hooper, Matthew Hooper and wife Jamie, Kristin Bates and husband Geoffrey, Andy Hooper, Sabrina Hooper, Haylee Guthrie and husband Jason , Tyler Hooper, Jamie Stein and husband Brandon, Holly Walker and husband Jeff, Dustin Gibson and wife Allyson; 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends that he loved dearly and always kept in his thoughts. He was also survived by his two faithful dogs, Jackie and Troubles. Jackie was a Hurricane Katrina rescue dog and Troubles was Donna's dog until Donna and Sherman went on vacation and Alvin kept her. A funeral service will be held at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville, AR on Saturday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Redding officiating. A graveside service will be held, immediately following, at Witter Cemetery in Witter, AR. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
